The Free City Grant is a grant funded through a partnership between CCSF and the City & County of San Francisco. It is for students who are recipients of Free City and the California College Promise Grant (CCPG).

To be eligible for the Free City Grant, a student must first meet the following criteria to be eligible for Free City:

  • Be a California Resident or qualify for the AB 540 Non-Resident Tuition Exemption
  • Be a San Francisco Resident
  • Apply for Admissions to CCSF for new applicants
  • Submit Free City Application Form when registering for classes on myRAM Portal

Please Note: Students who are homeless or who are a foster youth can qualify if they meet the California residency requirement.

Once a student meets Free City eligibility criteria and is eligible for Free City, a student must also qualify for the California College Promise Grant (CCPG, formerly known as BOGW).

Both Free City and the CCPG are tuition waivers. Due to this, when a student is eligible for both, the Free City tuition waiver of $46 per unit turns into a Free City Grant that awards students $46 per unit.

** Free City eligibility must be finalized and determined by the last day of the semester for which you are applying and registering for courses. The student is responsible for resolving any fee discrepancies by the last day of the semester for which the charges are being assessed. **
