Noncredit ESL is good for you.
Noncredit classes are free for California residents.
Do you currently live in California and need ESL classes for a college degree, certificate, or transfer to a 4-year college or university? Or do you need academic ESL for your job?
Credit ESL is good for you.
Credit classes cost $49 per unit, but you may be eligible for Free City. View the Free City informational video.
Did you live outside the United States and want to study as an international (F-1 visa) student?
You can attend CCSF classes with an F-1 visa.
Continuing credit students may check out the Class Schedule to find the right Credit ESL courses for you.
Continuing noncredit students may check out the Class Schedules to find Noncredit ESL courses that fit your schedule. If you are returning after a break from taking noncredit ESL classes, you may contact our ESL Placement Team to schedule a testing appointment.

Returning credit students who have not taken credit classes at CCSF for the last 2 semesters will re-apply to be credit students. You may use the Online ESL Guided Placement Tool to start the placement process.
Returning noncredit students may check out the Class Schedules to find Noncredit ESL courses that fit your schedule. If you are returning after a break from taking noncredit ESL classes, you may contact our ESL Placement Team to schedule a testing appointment.

Whether you are a new, returning, or continuing noncredit student, one of these steps will help you get started:
- Complete the noncredit application form
- Use the noncredit ESL placement tool
- Find classes from the noncredit ESL class schedules
- Get your RAM ID
- Register for classes
- Log in to Canvas to join your classes
To become a credit student:
- Complete the credit application form
- Attend the new student orientation
- Use the credit ESL placement tool
- Check your registration status using your RAM ID
Who must fill out the CCSF credit online application form?
- New credit students
- Current CCSF noncredit students
- CCSF credit students who did not take credit classes in the last two semesters
