City College no longer offers English and Math placement tests. Instead, you may use one of the following ways to get your English/ESL and Math Course Placement.

High School Coursework and GPA

  • You may receive transfer-level English and Math course placements based on your high school transcript data.
  • Submit your high school transcripts or other documentation along with the High School Data Form to the Assessment Center
  • Use self-reported high school GPA, if high school records are unavailable. Please submit the High School Data Form

Your placement results will be sent to your CCSF email account. After you receive your placements, please meet with a counselor to develop your educational plan.

Please note that all new, non-exempt students are still required to complete the Assessment components as part of the enrollment process. If you feel you need additional language acquisition support, please use our Online ESL Guided Placement Tool to determine which English as Second Language level is best for you.

College and/or Test Data Process

If you have completed previous college-level English and/or math coursework or have taken certain tests (AP, SAT, ACT, etc.), follow the steps below to have English and/or math prerequisites cleared.

  1. Submit the College and/or Test Data Form.
  2. Attach transcripts showing the completion of English coursework with a "C" or higher and/or Math coursework with a "C-" or higher (the previous college must consider "C-" a passing grade). If you are using a test score to complete the assessment, please attach a copy of your test scores.

Your placement results will be sent to your CCSF email account. After you receive your placements, please meet with a counselor to develop your educational plan.
