Work as a Peer Tutor with the Learning Assistance Department

Peer tutors in the Learning Assistance Department are current CCSF students who have demonstrated academic excellence in their subject, were referred by faculty, and receive on-going training on how to foster academic success in others. Peer tutors are available for in-person and online services.

Peer Tutor Qualifications

All Peer Tutors are required to meet the minimum qualifications below:

  • Complete the online application.
  • Current student enrolled at CCSF for the minimum of 6 units/semester (international students need to review SHEP requirements)
  • Received an "A" or "B" in the subject to be tutored.
  • A Faculty Letter of Recommendation in the course(s) to be tutored.
  • Reliable and able to support the philosophy and mission of the Learning Assistance Center.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Ability to work well with and empower students of all backgrounds, identities and abilities.
  • May be required to take an assessment test depending on the subject.
  • Enroll in and complete one of the following:
    •  LERN 10 Introduction to Tutoring Tutor Training Course (see semester schedule):
      • LERN 10 is a one unit credit, P/NP, CSU transferable course. See Class Schedule
    • Tutor Training Equity Workshops - Days and times vary

Additional requirements:

  • Student tutors are required to complete ongoing training. All required trainings are paid.
  • Student tutors must have availability in their schedules to tutor a mixture of morning, afternoon, or evening hours.

This is a part-time position with a maximum of 15 hours per week. Hours are based on available budget. Pay rates are set at $18.07/hour; flexible schedule to balance responsibilities. Federal Work Study applicants are encouraged to apply.

About our Tutor Training 


We are pleased to announce that the Learning Assistance Department's (LAD) Tutor Training Program has been approved by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) International Tutor Training Program Certification as Level 1.

Since 1989, over 1,000 college tutor training programs around the globe have received ITTPC at one or more Levels. CCSF is joining a rich history that will benefit our peer tutors and students who are seeking academic support services.

Upon completion of a minimum of 10 hours of training and 25 hours of supervised tutoring, peer tutors or staff will be CRLA Certified Level 1 Tutors through the Learning Assistance Department.
