Comprehensive, Culturally Specific, Multilingual Education Programs and Services

The Multicultural Retention Services consists of five academic retention programs that provide support services (counseling, tutoring), academic classes (English, math, college success), and other program-specific activities primarily to underprepared, underrepresented students, although our ‘open door’ policy allows all CCSF students to receive services.

Multicultural Retention Services

UMOJA/African American Scholastic Programs (AASP)

We provide comprehensive academic support, programs and services, which include counseling, tutoring, a computer lab/study center and enrichment activities to students of African/African American heritage, as well as all CCSF students.

Asian Pacific American Student Success Program (APASS)

Provides counseling (academic, career and personal), along with other academic support services to Asian, Pacific American and all CCSF students. The program offers bilingual counseling, study groups and a computer lab/study center.

Filipino American Student Success Program (TULAY)

Provides academic support services, including counseling (academic, career and personal), tutoring and a computer lab/study center to students of Filipino and Pacific Islander heritage, as well as all CCSF students.

Provides academic support services, including bilingual counseling (academic, career and personal), tutoring and a computer lab/study center and enrichment activities to students of Latino heritage, as well as all CCSF students.

Provide culturally specific, multilingual education programs and services that promote successful learning and student achievement in a multicultural environment to Pacific Islander students and all CCSF students.

Our Mission

The mission of Multicultural Retention Services is to provide comprehensive, culturally specific, multilingual education programs and services that promote successful learning and student achievement in a multiculturally sensitive setting.

Our primary mission is to operate five distinct programs and to provide retention services leading to:

Transfer to baccalaureate institutions
Attainment of Associate Degrees in Arts and Sciences
Acquisition of certificates and career skills
Successful transition of students from Basic Skills and English as a Second Language to college-level proficiency
Improved access and persistence of Multicultural Retention Services targeted student populations

In addition, Multicultural Retention Services collaborates with academic departments and community-based organizations to offer other programs and services consistent with our primary mission.
