The Asian Pacific American Student Success Program (APASS) supports Asian and Pacific Islander students in pursuit of academic success through early intervention and effective support services; promote individual growth and personal success through a culturally sensitive environment; recognize cultural diversity within the Asian and Pacific Islander communities; and foster unity within the college community and beyond.

Counseling

APASS Counselors are here to help you with academic-related matters and issues.

It is important that you make an appointment to see a counselor during your first semester to discuss your educational and career objectives, and to develop a customized educational plan. In addition, meet with a counselor at least once a semester to make sure you are on the right track in achieving your educational and career goals.

Our APASS Counselors provide counseling services to ALL CCSF students (new, continuing or returning). We can:

Help you to clarify your educational objectives and develop an educational plan, specific to your education goals.
Help you to understand the requirements of certificate programs, associate degrees, general education, majors, and transfer as well as the College's policies and procedures.
Assist with class selection and general review of transcripts.
Provide academic notice/dismissal counseling for those students who are struggling academically and need to strategize ways to improve their academic performance and standing.
Assist with graduation and financial petitions and other academic/registration related forms.
Provide Financial Aid and Scholarship information.
Provide referrals to campus and community services

Computer Lab

Our Computer Lab/Study Lab is OPEN to students, staff, and faculty during LAB hours. The lab includes:

6 computer stations available for students to conduct research, complete homework, and/or any academic purpose.
Study area with 4 tables great for study groups or workshops or even alone time with a book
Great WIFI connection through the CCSF Wireless for students, staff, and faculty

History of APASS

APASS Center is the culmination of volunteer work by a committee of students, counselors, instructors, administrators, and staff led by faculty member, Laura Wu McClain in 2003-2004. The startling statistic shows that approximately 40 percent of the students on academic notice at City College of San Francisco are Asian and Pacific Islander students, prompted the formation of McClain's committee.

The committee met with focus groups of Burmese, Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, Indonesian, Pacific Islander, and Vietnamese students for the purpose of gathering information about their experience at the College and to determine how the district could help them achieve academic success. The committee then drafted a proposal to provide a special location on the Ocean campus where students could attend workshops, meet with counselors, and participate in study groups, all with the intention of improving academic achievement. With the strong support of the College's Board, Chancellor Philip R. Day, Jr., Vice-Chancellor Don Griffin, former Vice-Chancellor Frances Lee, and the College's Budget and Planning Committee, plans were made to launch the APASS Center by the fall semester 2004. Space was located at Batmale Hall on the Ocean campus, architectural drawings were completed in early 2004, and construction began soon after. The beautiful, spacious APASS Center, with computers, comfortable desks and chairs, a conference room, and several offices, was formally opened on October 15, 2004.
