From Funk to Hip Hop

Explores African American culture as reflected through theories of race and ethnicity and the aesthetics and politics of Black popular music from the Black Awakening of the 1960s to Hip-hop. Provides an understanding of how Black music forms have impacted and represented African American social consciousness, struggles, resistance, and racial justice.

Prep for the CHW Field

This class offers an introduction to the roles and core competencies of Community Health Workers (CHW) and assesses students' readiness for the Community Health Worker Certificate Program. Students will learn key public health concepts, models for providing person-centered services, and explore the professional roles that CHWs play in health and social services.

Intro Stem Cell Intern Support

Provides the necessary communication tools for beginning students placed in off-campus stem cell biology internships. Emphasis is put on demonstrating how their work contributes to the overall scientific research being conducted at their internship site. Types of internships may include, but are not limited to, differentiation of pluripotent stem cells, FACS analysis, primary cell culture, propagation of iPS cells, immunolocalization, microarray analysis, and tumor cell characterization.
