Catalog Description

Introductory astronomy course with an emphasis on the development of the cosmos and its components. The origin, evolution, and final state of our physical universe. Properties, formation, and evolution of our galaxy and other galaxies, the sun and other stars, and our solar system. Extrasolar planets and the possibility of life elsewhere in the universe.

Section Notes

This class is part of CityOnline and is 17.5 weeks. ASTR 1-Sec 861 requires in-person meetings and the use of Canvas. The meeting day(s) and time(s) will be noted in the schedule. An in-person midterm is required for all students. Midterm exams will be held on March 13, 14, 15, & 16 (students must attend only one of these), and final exams on May 15, 16, & 18 {again, students must attend only one of these.) Students will also complete coursework in Canvas, which must be accessed using an internet enabled device. For course details, students must check the instructor's website.
