Plant Biology

Introduction to structure, function, evolution, classification and ecology of plants. Topics include life history plants, levels of organization, metabolism, form and function, and a survey of major taxa (including fungi and photosynthetic protists). Laboratory exercises are coordinated with lecture topics and may include field exercises.

Ecology

Fundamental concepts of ecology, field observations and experiments applying the scientific method; chemical and energy cycles; effect of physical and biological environment on community structure; diversity and distribution; population dynamics and interspecific reactions; biodiversity of the genetic, species, and ecosystems level and relevant social ecological problems.

General Biology

A general introduction to cell structure and function, cell biochemistry, cell cycle, principles of molecular and organismal genetics, genetic engineering, and animal form and function. Intended for students majoring in the biological sciences, but open to all qualified students.
