This course focuses on the relationship of theatre to various cultures throughout history, and on the contributions of significant individual artists. This course introduces students to elements of the production process including playwriting, acting, directing, design and criticism. Different periods, styles, and genres will be surveyed.
Readings in and discussions of Hispanic Civilization from the High Paleolithic to the l7th Century: Spain and Latin America. Designed to improve command of the spoken language through building vocabulary, improving pronunciation and expressing ideas in a more natural manner with some written Spanish practice as well. Designed for bilingual/heritage students who are effective in oral communication in Spanish within their communities, but have little formal training in written forms of the language. Intensive review of grammar, composition and translation. Emphasis on sufficient control of language (vocabulary, structures, conventions of spoken and written language) to understand fully and with ease a variety of more complex texts that have a clear, organized structure.
