The course covers fundamental energy science and math; climate change; national and global energy trends; solar, wind, and hydro resources; photoelectric effect; photosynthesis; geothermal; and nuclear. Explore decarbonization of the energy system and integration of distributed energy resources.

Circuit Analysis Lab

An introduction to the construction and measurement of electrical circuits exercising DC, transient, and sinusoidal steady-state (AC) conditions. Use of test and measurement instruments, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and function generators. Introduction to component value tolerance and non-ideal aspects of laboratory instruments. Use of circuit simulation software. Interpretation of measured and simulated data based on principles of circuit analysis.

Methods and practice of planetary science and its impact on humanity. Fundamental physical sciences for understanding the origin and evolution of planetary systems. Comparative examination of planetary attributes, including atmospheres, geospheres, magnetospheres, and hydrospheres. The solar system and extra-solar planetary systems and life-bearing possibilities. Detailed planetary information revealed by space missions.

Instruction and practice in physical and psychological aspects of self-defense. Emphasis on developing strategies to emerge from threatening situations without sustaining serious physical or psychological trauma. An introductory course in physics. Content is taught at a conceptual level using basic math such as ratios, square roots, scientific notation, graph interpretation, slope, and simple scalar and vector algebra. Topics include forces, motion, energy, momentum, work, power, simple machines, waves, electricity, and magnetism.
