Basic knowledge of a Fire Fighter I�s field inspection roles and responsibilities specific to California including tents, canopies, and temporary membrane structures; fireworks and explosives; and wildland urban interface environments.

Basic knowledge of field inspection roles and responsibilities of a Fire Inspector I including basic plan review, emergency access for an existing system, hazardous materials, and the operational readiness of fixed fire suppression systems, existing fire detection and alarm systems, and portable fire extinguishers.

Introduction to fire and life safety aspects related to the roles and responsibilities of a Fire Inspector 1 including building construction, occupancy classifications, occupancy load, means of egress, hazardous conditions, fire growth potential, fire flow, and emergency planning and preparedness measures.

Introduction to the roles and responsibilities of a Fire Inspector I including legal responsibilities and authority, codes and standards, the inspection process, privacy requirements, and administrative tasks such as inspection reports, permit review, and investigation of common complaints.

Basic Fire Academy is for entry-level Firefighter positions with the San Francisco Fire Department. Training meets the standards of the National Fire Protection Association and California State Fire Marshal's Office of State Fire Training, and the Firefighter (2024) curriculum. Emphasis is on Firefighter training, Wild land Firefighter training, and Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction training.

Field application of principles taught in Basic Fire Academy. This course is used with other fire service agency training such as in the San Francisco Fire Department. One unit of credit is earned for 54 hours of unpaid or paid work.

Components of building construction that relate to fire safety; elements of construction and design of structures as key factors when inspecting buildings; preplanning fire operations and operating at fires; development and evolution of building and fire codes studied in relationship to past fires in residential, commercial and industrial occupancies.

This course is designed to accomplish an understanding of the operational level component associated with hazardous materials. Fulfills the requirements by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 472 and exceeds the requirements of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 29 CFR 1910.120 standard for competent response to Hazardous Materials / Weapons of Mass Destruction incidents.

Introductory course to fire science that examines fire technology, department organizational structures, Incident Command System, fire protection systems and equipment, and provides an overview of careers in fire investigation, fire prevention, and fire suppression. The class meets the Fire Fighter I and II certification of the National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA?) Standard 1001.
