We live by words . . .
A story of service for San Francisco . . .
The English Department promotes English language skills so that
students will learn to communicate clearly, creatively, and
critically, both orally and in writing, and evaluate what they hear
and read. In addition, we seek to inspire our students to appreciate
the literary arts. To this end, faculty in composition, reading,
literature, and humanities are committed to creating positive learning environments and outcomes for
our students. We also publish
Forum, CCSF's literary journal since 1937.
We invite each student to develop a unique voice and, in doing so, contribute to the academic, civic, and social fabric of our community, learn to advocate and think critically, appreciate our many cultures, and use communication to build a more humane world. We live by words!
