Instructor Bio

BA, Political Economy, University of California, Berkeley, 1982
MBA, Finance, University of San Francisco, 1984

As a campus tour guide while in college at the University of California, Berkeley, and even after hundreds of elevator rides crammed with visitors eager to reach the Campanile’s observation deck 200 feet above, my love of academia and campus life has never subsided.

After graduating from the University of San Francisco, I found myself working in the Corporate Banking division of a Japanese Bank (Bank of California, a subsidiary of The Bank of Tokyo). After a few years of loan committee meetings and the somewhat isolating process of number crunching to deem credit worthiness, I was drawn to, and aptly suited for sales. I thereby joined Chicago-based printing company, RR Donnelley & Sons Company.  It was at Donnelley where I learned the art of creative problem solving, customer satisfaction, and overcoming challenges.

In 2000, I left the corporate world behind, and in 2006,  became a full-time faculty member in the School of Business at City College of San Francisco, where my late father, Hyman Maxwell Berston, taught Real Estate, and where my twin sister, Marilyn Goodman, teaches marketing.

I am an engaged student mentor and faculty advisor for Alpha Beta Gamma Business Honors Society. I am a former member and Secretary of the Academic Senate Executive Council. Contributing to the success of my students is simply icing on the cake.
