About Aircraft Maintenance Technology

Are you interested in a career in the aviation industry?

If you have ever ridden on an airplane, your safety was in the hands of aircraft mechanics and technicians who inspected and repaired that plane. Aircraft mechanics and technicians repair everything from wings to brakes to landing gear and electrical systems. They perform scheduled maintenance, make repairs, and complete inspections. The Bureau of Labor Statistics shows the mean annual wage for aircraft mechanics and technicians in the United States in 2019 was $67,110 and in California was $71,890.

City College of San Francisco is a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certified aviation maintenance technician school offering two years of specialized training for students desiring preparation for employment in the field of aviation maintenance, as Aircraft Maintenance Technicians (AMT). We award both certificates and degrees.

A technical background is not a prerequisite. If you have a genuine interest, strong personal integrity and discipline, a truly exciting career in the aviation industry awaits you. Many individuals from various backgrounds have already succeeded in the program and are enjoying the benefits of jobs in the aviation industry and related fields.

Satisfactory completion of a complete series of courses in Aircraft Powerplant Maintenance Technology and Airframe Maintenance Technology will qualify you to take the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification exams.
