Catalog Description
Multilingual students are introduced to the field of healthcare interpreting (HCI) and the California HCI Standards, exploring the roles and scope of practice of healthcare interpreters. Completion of this course, along with proof of language proficiency in English and in a language of service, is required for possible admission to the HCI Certificate of Achievement program.
Section Notes
This section requires live online meetings that take place on Fridays 7/17 & 7/24 from 4:10 - 7 pm with 1.5 additional hours TBA for language assessments. Students who miss the first live synchronous Zoom session will be dropped from the course. Live online meetings require the use of CityZoom, Zoom’s web conferencing platform in Canvas, using an internet enabled device. For course details, students must check the instructor's website. Requisites
Recommended Preparation, ESL 184 and Excellent proficiency in a second language, such as Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Russian, Arabic, Korean, Japanese, or Mongolian.
