Catalog Description
Comprehensive and critical analysis of the cultures and traditions of the peoples in Latin America. Critical in-depth study of contemporary society and political systems, inter-ethnic relations, traditional medicinal healing, religions, and sorcery. Analysis of the history and development of Latin American cultures and the impact of state forms of social organization on its traditional societies.
Section Notes
This is a hybrid class that meets four times in-person during the semester on the following Wednesday evenings at 6:10-8pm: 9/30, 10/21, 11/18, and 12/16. These classes are held at the Mission Center (1125 Valencia Street). Students will be encouraged to attend the Maya Festival at Mission Center on Oct. 3, 2026. The course also has an online component which requires the use of Canvas. Students will complete coursework in Canvas, which must be accessed using an internet-enabled device.
