Overview

The Strong Workforce Program (SWP) is a statewide effort to proactively address widely recognized gaps in workforce development throughout the State of California. In 2016, the state government announced an annual $200 million allocation to California community colleges. In the first year of allocations, Fiscal Year 2016-17, CCSF benefited from a $2.7 million SWP allocation to address local program needs, and a $1.5 million SWP allocation to meet regional labor market needs. (Note that these funds will support a variety of Strong Workforce Program improvements, including enrollment development, program enhancement, innovation, infrastructure, integrated student support services and instruction, professional development, and designated staffing in addition to one-time capital investments.

The goal of this project is to make one-time capital investments needed to maintain safe, supportive, and quality learning environments that strengthen Career Technical Education (CTE) and occupational clusters district-wide.

Preliminarily, project scope under consideration may include:

  • Downtown Center
    • Window display cabinet and storage system for Fashion Merchandising Program.
    • Upgrade Computer Labs 325 and 426. Upgrade may involve power and data cabling enhancements or reconfigurations in addition to replacement equipment.
  • Evans Center
    • Expand secure vocational yard area through fencing, gates, curb cuts, lighting and other improvements to allow for secure storage of instructional equipment.
    • Improve apparel construction room, including upgraded lighting and roof leak repairs.
    • Upgrade Classroom 106 to a computer lab with modern instructional technology.
  • John Adams Center
    • Upgrade classrom storage for CPR/EMT/Paramedic Program.
    • Upgrade lab tables for Mecial Assisting and Medical Admilnistrative Assisting Programs.
    • Develop a feasibility study to relocate certain health programs (Dental Assisting, Digital Media Imaging/ Radiologic Technology, Registered Nursing) from Ocean Campus to John Adams Center.
    • Convert storage space to CNA Lab-Classroom to unify LVN and CNA programs.
    • Redesign existing classroom space as a mixed-use Learning Assistance classroom.
  • Mission Center
    • Reconfigure Visual Media Design lab for improved utilization and efficacy.
    • Expand the Child Observation Room by providing line of sight between Rooms 173 and 174.
  • Ocean Campus
    • Upgrade power and data in Batmale Hall Room 453.

Project scope is subject to further development.

Project Budget

This project is grant-funded by the California Community Colleges Strong Workforce Grant Program. The State appropriates funding in distinct fiscal years for implementation phases of the project. The preliminary budget set aside to fund these one-time capital investments is

  • $1, 667,000 (total project costs, soft and hard).
