Overview

Seismic upgrade for structural integrity includes strengthening the unreinforced masonry building facade, along with retrofit work to the overall structural system for compliance with current building codes.

Renovation improvements and code upgrades include the following:

  • Mechanical & Plumbing
    Heating and ventilation system upgrades including boilers, piping, ducts, insulation, pumps, fans, controls and equipment to replace failing or out of service systems, increase energy efficiency and to facilitate seismic enhancements.
  • Electrical and Low Voltage Communication Cabling
    Replace roof. Repair and restore portions of the exterior walls, windows and exterior doors as required by code and to facilitate seismic enhancements.
  • Electrical and Low Voltage Communication Cabling
    In addition to replacing failing or non-operational service and distribution systems, increasing energy efficiency and facilitating the construction of seismic enhancements, the work includes matching load capacity with demand, load shedding and improvements to lighting and energy efficiency improvements. Low voltage cabling, cabinets and devices will be upgraded as required.
  • Interior Finishes, Doors and Hardware
    Repair or replace interior finishes including ceiling finishes, flooring, interior doors, stairs, wall finishes and walls as required by code and to facilitate seismic enhancements.
  • Fixed in Place Furnishings and Equipment
    Repair or replace cabinets, counters, window blinds and other installed furnishings as required by code and to facilitate seismic enhancements.

Project Budget

This project is funded by the California Community Colleges Capital Outlay Grant Program. Proposals for capital outlay funding were submitted annually, from 1999 to 2008, and then again from 2014 to 2016. The 2016 proposal was approved for funding.

The State appropriates funding in distinct fiscal years for implementation phases of the project:

  • Design Phase - $1,239,000
    • Funding in FY2017-18
  • Construction Phase - $10,447,000
    • Anticipated funding in FY2018-19

Project Status

  • Prequalification of potential design teams for Seismic Upgrade and Remodel Project completed
  • Recommendation to award a design contract is on the April 23, 2018 Board agenda
