City College of San Francisco was opened in August of 1935 as San Francisco Junior College, housed in two temporary facilities - one downtown and one in the Marina district. Quickly, enrollment grew and the college expanded to space at twenty-three nearby business and public recreational sites, giving it the nickname “Trolley Car College”. The new, permanent campus was officially opened in 1940 with the opening of Science Hall. Time has flown by, and here we are today, excited to offer thousands of students from San Francisco and beyond a vibrant and enriching education.
