Microsoft Excel

This course provides in-depth coverage of the concepts and techniques required to use Microsoft Excel to create spreadsheets to express, analyze, and solve business-related problems, and to assist in the preparation for the Microsoft Office Specialist Excel certification exam.

PowerPoint Presentations

This course provides in-depth coverage of the concepts and techniques required to use Microsoft PowerPoint to create compelling slide show presentations. Topics include planning an effective presentation, adding and editing video and audio clips, creating tables and charts, animating graphics, and applying artistic effects. This course prepares students for the Microsoft Office Specialist PowerPoint certification exam.

Includes time management, critical thinking, personal and educational values, written and spoken communication, informational literacy, research skills, equity and social justice, navigation of educational systems, online learning, health, and financial literacy.

Organizing for Justice

Strategies and tactics of organizing for economic, racial, and social justice in various settings, including workplace and community organizing, unions and workers' centers, and labor-community coalition building. Study the effectiveness of different approaches to building labor and community power in the current historical context.

California Labor History

History of California's working people and their quest for social justice, encompassing the state's diverse regions, races and cultures. Examines early Native Peoples, the Spanish conquest, and Chinese workers and the railroads. Studies agricultural, industrial, service and public sector workers, the tech sector, and the impact of economic inequality on society. Explores strategies used by workers, unions, worker centers, and community organizations advocating for workers power.

Copy Editing

Information about and practice in copy editing for newspapers, magazines, and websites with attention to accuracy, style, and organization. Introduction to a career as a copy editor as well as professional development for writers and working editors. The writer-editor relationship, and ways to keep it healthy, is emphasized throughout the course.
