Work Experience in CDEV

This course will provide on or off-campus experience in early childhood/child development- ECE, K -12 classroom, after-school or youth work settings. The focus will be on providing practical experience in the methods and principles of teaching in early childhood and school-age classrooms. Emphasis will be placed on the role of the teacher in the field experience setting. One unit of credit is earned for 54 hours of unpaid or paid work.

Exercise and Sports Nutrition

Introduction to the application of nutrition to human performance in both exercise and sports, with emphasis on nutrition as it applies to fitness, sport-specific training, and athletic performance. Topics include nutrient requirements and dietary recommendations, energy metabolism, weight management, the role of adequate nutrition in performance during training and competition, nutrition ergogenic aids.

Intro to Ethnic Studies

An introduction to concepts, theories, methodologies and social policy related to the history, culture, concerns, and conditions of the field of Ethnic Studies. Employs Critical Race Theory, Intersectionality, and Indigenous Methodologies to analyze and articulate cultural, political, and economic practices and institutions that support or challenge racism, racial and ethnic inequalities, and patterns of interaction between various racial and ethnic groups.

HS First Aid/CPR/AED

First Aid includes how to activate the Emergency Medical Services System, recognize the need for emergency care, resuscitation, and specific care for certain medical, traumatic, and environmental emergencies on infants, children, and adult patients. CPR/AED and first aid training targeted for layperson rescuers. American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED card awarded to those who meet AHA competency standards.

AS AM & AM Ideals Institutions

An Ethnic Studies introduction to Asian Pacific American groups in the United States and their long term experience with basic governmental ideals and institutions, at the national, state and local levels. Examine the impact of Asians, Asian American agency, group-affirmation, struggle, and resistance on legal-constitutional America and the countervailing impact of race and racism and political-legal structures imposed on different groups of Asians by U.S., California, and local governments.
