A supervised work experience in developing a professional relationship with patients, pharmacy staff, and other health care personnel in a retail pharmacy and hospital setting focusing on professional attitudes and work-related entry-level competencies. One unit of credit is earned for 54 hours of unpaid or paid work.
Application of advanced drug preparation skills to various clinical settings as well as maintaining inventory, storage requirements, drug selection, preparation and filling of prescriptions. Emphasis on quality assurance and the use of automated technology as related to preparation of IV admixtures and chemotherapeutic agents.
Advanced drug classification, mechanism of action, indications, and side effects; preparation of intravenous additives and chemotherapeutic agents; record keeping of legend and controlled drugs; anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, pharmacology, and pharmaceutical calculations, and pharmacy law as they pertain to pharmacy practice.
A survey of literature written in English and Filipino (in translation) by Filipino authors in the diaspora. The course includes the study of texts as they relate to the development of Filipino identity in the diaspora, and how social and historical contexts are presented through forms of literature such as poems, short stories, and essays. Themes and topics such as post-colonialism, identity, immigration, political activism, language, and home.
This course examines the experiences of the Filipinx LGBTQ+ communities in the Philippines and the diaspora. Using an intersectional approach, topics include, but are not limited to, the histories and legacies of colonization, belief systems and faith, queer cultural values, family dynamics, sexuality, gender identities, struggles for acceptance, liberation, colonial mentality, and contemporary efforts of advocacy and activism by the queer Filipinx community.
An interdisciplinary analysis of contemporary, social, political, economic, and cultural issues that significantly affect the Filipino community, including the following areas: identity development, immigration and acculturation, socioeconomic status, labor, racial and ethnic diversity, colorism, gender identity, political empowerment, cultural appropriation, and indigeneity.
Independent Study allows individual students to explore academic interests in Philippine Studies through guided research projects. Students are required to either write a research paper or give a presentation on their work.
An introductory course in large format photography for professional and artistic use. Students will explore the unique applications of a manual 4x5 view camera, including perspective correction, and selective focus. Course will cover techniques needed to properly expose and process large format film, and produce digital files from negatives. Cameras and accessories are available to students.
Professional photographers present and discuss their work in technical and aesthetic terms, a unique opportunity for photography students to be exposed to renowned photographers and discus topics in question and answer format.
Photography can be used as a powerful tool for social change. This course examines the historic and contemporary role that photography has played in activist activities throughout the United States and abroad.
