Fundamentals in feature writing for magazines and newspapers with special emphasis on profile and interpretive news features. This course provides practical experience in interview and in-depth research techniques. Training in how to write a freelance story for publication.

Advanced news production course focused on the publication of the college news outlet, The Guardsman. Requires an advanced level of news gathering, interviewing, photography, videography, note-taking, and newswriting in collaboration with other students.

Advanced beginner news production course focused on the publication of the college news outlet The Guardsman. Requires an advanced beginner level of news gathering, interviewing, photography, videography, note-taking, and newswriting in collaboration with other students.

Beginner news production course focused on the publication of the college news outlet The Guardsman. Requires news gathering, interviewing, photography, videography, note-taking, and newswriting in collaboration with other students.

Contemporary Media

Introduction to modern media, with an emphasis on the development of the news media, analysis of the credibility of the media and an examination of the media's impact on daily life from a variety of perspectives. The course teaches students news literacy tools for critically navigating the sea of information directed at the public daily.

Internship Experience

Supervised on-campus or off-campus employment in the journalism field that is adaptable to the student. This could include experiences such as working on community based newspapers, publishing on the Internet, or improving the journalism-publishing program at CCSF for the betterment of the larger community. One unit of credit is earned for 54 hours of unpaid or paid work.
