The first third of the beginner's course in Mandarin for students who speak another dialect of Chinese. Emphasis on pronunciation and fundamental vocabulary, using Pinyin. Designed for students who wish to acquire basic skills of spoken Mandarin rather than formal grammar and literature.
Continuation of extensive oral training in Mandarin. Emphasis on practical vocabulary, pronunciation and idiomatic usage. Designed for students who wish to acquire more advanced skills of spoken Mandarin with a minimum of formal grammar rather than reading and writing in Chinese characters.
Beginning-level course in Cantonese. Extensive oral training in Cantonese. Emphasis on practical vocabulary and idiom rather than on formal grammar and literature. Students will learn tone and markings rather than Chinese characters.
Grammar, composition, and reading at a basic intermediate level of Chinese. Practice speaking and understanding Mandarin. Understanding of Chinese culture. Not recommended to native speakers of Mandarin.
