Dear College Community,

I hope you had a restful weekend and are ready for finishing off finals this week.

On this day, 67 years ago the US Supreme Court handed its landmark ruling and what became a major victory for civil rights on Brown vs. Board of Education Topeka, ending a legal system of segregation in education. Today, as the economic gap continues to widened between communities of color and white communities, we must continue to work for social justice and equity in education.

Great news! Last week the City College of San Francisco Queer Resource Center presented at the 3rd annual CCC LGBTQ+ Summit. The presentation was led by QRC student leader, Charlie Garcia-Spiegel and QRC Coordinator, Juan Fernandez. The presentation focused on the virtual programs produced by the QRC and was titled, “Throwing a T-Party: How to build Trans Spaces on Campus.” Congratulations and keep up the good work.

More great news! The Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) accepted our report detailing how we handled the disruption caused by the pandemic. The commission approved our course of action in dealing with the pandemic and how we were able to continue training our students. Our program received the notification of approval without reporting requirements. Congratulations to our Dental Assisting Program in working hard to achieve this!

Last week, through CityNotes, our Financial Aid Team rolled out the $500 State Chancellor Emergency Fund for our students. Despite 20 items being listed in CityNotes, within 5 minutes 1500 students had accessed the link. This shows the enormous financial hardships our students face and the need to immediate financial resources. There are still spots left, so access the application now!

Students we want to hear from you! We have put together a short survey to help us better understand your experiences and preferences at CCSF. This survey will take 5 minutes to complete and those who participate will be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift card to the CCSF bookstore.

This year’s commencement hashtag is: #InThisTogether. We can do this! Have a great week!

Yours sincerely,
