Black History Month Events:
Making Black Queer Diaspora in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil' An Artist-Scholar talk by Dr. Joshua Reason.
Known as Black Mecca, Salvador da Bahia is internationally renowned for its historical, cultural, political, and religious connections to the African continent. However, Black queer and trans people are often removed from that narrative. In analyzing several performances from contemporary artists and entertainers from the city, this talk argues that Salvador is engaging in transatlantic dialogues that are reshaping notions of diaspora to be inclusive of Black queer and trans communities.
