Instructor Bio

Rebeca Mauleón is an internationally renowned musician and educator specializing in Afro-Caribbean and Latin American music. From her recording and performing work with legends including Tito Puente, Carlos Santana, Steve Winwood, Joe Henderson, Israel López “Cachao” and Mickey Hart, to her critically-acclaimed recordings, Mauleón is one of the most multifaceted artists on the world music scene. She is the author and co-editor of the Salsa Guidebook, 101 Montunos  and Latin Real Book (Sher Music Co), and co-authored a new book with legendary Cuban pianist Chucho Valdés entitled Decoding Afro-Cuban Jazz: The Music of Chucho Valdés and Irakere (Sher Music, 2018). Mauleón is professor of the Roots Jazz & American Music (RJAM) program at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, tenured professor at City College of San Francisco, and is Director of Education at SFJAZZ (San Francisco Jazz Organization). She is also an acclaimed clinician specializing in Afro-Cuban and Latin American music and performance practice.
