Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG)

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) Program to UC?

The TAG Program offers students guaranteed admissions to six of the UC's that participate in the TAG Program. The writing of a TAG contract enables qualified students to be guaranteed admission to a UC campus one year prior to transfer. Interested students must satisfactorily complete UC and college/major specific TAG eligibility requirements.

What are the requirements for writing a TAG?

TAG requirements can be found here:

Can I write a TAG contract for all six UC campuses that accept TAGs?

Students can only apply to one (1) TAG campus – one campus, one major.

When and how do I apply for a TAG?

TAG applications are submitted one year prior to a student's intended year of transfer. For Fall admissions, TAG applications are submitted online September 1 – 30.

When will I know if my TAG has been accepted?

Students will be notified (via email from UC) of their TAG decision no later than November 15.

Am I required to meet with a TAG Counselor to apply for a TAG?

Students applying for TAG’s with UC Davis or UC Santa Cruz are recommended to meet with a TAG counselor to have their TAG’s approved. TAG applicants to the other UCs do not need to meet with a counselor. However, these students are welcome to do so.

When do I submit the UC admissions application?

Applications are submitted online from November 1 – 30.

Does City College offer a TAG with UCLA OR UC Berkeley?

UCLA and UC Berkeley do not offer TAGs. Although City College does not offer a TAG with UCLA, City College students who participate in the Honors Transfer Program are eligible to participate in the Transfer Alliance Program. For further information, please visit the City College’s Honors Program website. UC Berkeley has the TAP Program. Contact for more information.

Does a UC TAG actually guarantee admissions to both the college and major of the student's choice?

The answer to this question depends on the college and major for which a student is applying. In general, students must meet all TAG eligibility requirements to be considered for a TAG. Some colleges guarantee admissions to the major, others guarantee admissions to the college but not necessarily the major.

If I don’t qualify for a TAG, can I still apply to UC?

YES! All students are welcome to apply through the regular admissions process in November.

Caution: The final responsibility for a successful transfer program rests with the student. This information changes frequently and can impact your admission to the university. It is highly advised that you meet periodically with counselors at City College AND advisors at the university to confirm your choice of classes and educational plan.
