Infectious Disease Prevention in

Priority Populations Certificate

As planned, this certificate moved to the Community Health Worker (CHW) program as the HIV and Hepatitis Navigation Specialist Certificate.

The Infectious Disease Prevention in Priority Populations Certificate was an 11-unit program of study preparing diverse entry-level workers in a variety of community-based public health, health care, and social service settings that address infectious disease prevention and management, primarily HIV, STI's, TB, Hepatitis, and other select communicable diseases. Skills sets in the certificate include case management, outreach, client navigation & linkage, and counseling-motivational interviewing.

This certificate was designed to combine course work with the Community Health Worker, Re-Entry Specialist, Youth Advocate, Drug and Alcohol Studies, and Sexual Health Educator Programs.

Infectious Disease Prevention Certificate Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the Infectious Disease Prevention in Priority Populations Certificate program students will be able to demonstrate the following:

1. Comprehend, apply, and evaluate information on infectious disease prevention and management; primarily HIV, STI, TB, Hepatitis, and other select communicable diseases.

2. Demonstrate entry-level proficiency in skills including case management, outreach, client navigation & linkage, and counseling-motivational interviewing.

3. Demonstrate the ability to work with members in diverse communities including gay men, transgender, youth, communities of color, and consumers of substance abuse services using principles of harm reduction and cultural humility.

4. Demonstrate the behavioral, ethical, and professional interpersonal skills necessary for employment in the field.


Health 67: Systems of Prevention for HIV & Other Infectious Disease

Health 67 is a core foundational class in the new certificat Students are strongly encouraged to take Health 67 before other coursework.

Health 67 provides education and skills training to help diverse populations to reduce their risk of infection for HIV, STI's, Hepatitis, and TB.

Health 67 meets CCSF graduation requirements in Areas G2 and H3.
