Finance Programs

Finance programs provide students with the fundamental knowledge and skills in finance to transfer to a four-year university with a major in finance, or to work in various entry-level positions in financial service companies, such as banks, insurance companies or brokerage firms.


Associate in Science Degree in Finance

The two-year program leading to the Associate in Science degree is primarily designed for those planning to enter the financial services industry in entry-level or operational positions and for those in the industry who are seeking advancement. The student is required to complete 43-45 units in the Finance major field, as well as other units for graduation. The program is also for those students wishing to gain knowledge about the discipline of finance before transferring to a four-year college or university. Please see curriculum for required courses. Finance Certificate of Achievement

The credit Finance Certificate of Achievement curriculum is designed for students who desire recognition for completing a rigorous course of study in financial services skills but who may not be interested in pursuing a degree. It consists of 30 units and can be completed in 2 semesters if a student is attending full time. Please see curriculum for required courses for certificate. Classes are offered in the day and evening and are located at the Ocean Campus and Downtown Campus. Some classes are available online. Please see the class schedule for current semester schedule.

How to Enroll

It’s easy to start the program. Apply to the college, then register for one or more classes. See the steps to becoming a credit student. You may also contact the Office of Admissions at (415) 239-3285. Please refer to tuition information for specifics on City College tuition costs. Financial Aid is available for those who qualify. You may also call the Financial Aid Office at (415) 239-3577.


Applying for a Degree or Certificate

When you have completed all the required classes, fill out a petition for graduation or a petition for a certificate. The petition form is available in Admissions and Records, Conlan Hall, Room 107, and should be submitted at the beginning of the semester that you complete all the requirements. Petitions must submitted by the deadline posted in the Calendar of Instruction.
