What will I learn in this program?

The Certificate of Accomplishment in Stem Cell Technology is designed to prepare students to work at a biotech company or an academic research lab as a technician in mammalian cell culture and/or adult and embryonic stem cell culture.  Students will be proficient in aseptic technique, passaging and maintenance of mammalian cell lines, basic cell growth assays, fluorescent staining and microscopy, embryonic stem cell differentiation, adult stem cell isolation, FACS analysis, and related cell biology techniques.

Does this program have any special enrollment requirements?

The stem cell technology certificate is designed for students that have earned the biomanufacturing certificate or have a strong grasp of algebra, biology, and chemistry from previous academic or work experience.  Admissions to the follow courses (or the equivalent) are strongly recommended: 1) One semester of elementary algebra (Math 840 or ET 108B) or completion of a higher level of math class; 2) Two semesters of Chemistry (Chem 32, 40) or (Chem 101A, 208A); and 3) One semester of biology (Bio 11) or (Bio 101A).
