What will I learn in this program?

Students in the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Studies, Management Programs earn an Associate in Science Degree in three distinct majors: Culinary Arts Management, Food Service Management; or Hotel Management. The Culinary Arts Program provides students with both academic and hands-on training in many facets of the hospitality industry, including culinary arts, food service, restaurant operations and more.

The jobs for which students will be qualified for upon graduation will greatly depend upon both the amount and the level of work experience as well as the education and training received in this program. For graduates with little work experience, examples of available positions would be entry-level cooks (pantry or prep). For those with greater experience, positions include line or pastry cooks, sous chef and more.

Does this program have any special enrollment requirements?

Prospective students need to complete 2 applications: the CCSF application; and the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Studies application, attend the CAHS Department Orientation, and place into English 92 or higher on the CCSF English placement test, or complete ESL 140 or place into ESL 150 or higher on the CCSF ESL placement test. Students must also follow all additional instructions on the CAHS application.

Does this program have any special costs?

The culinary arts students are required to purchase chef’s uniforms, knives and tools.  The total cost is about $500.
