American Folk Music: Country

Country music has its roots in the folk music of the southeastern and mid-western United States. What makes it unique, and not just a continuation of British folk music, is how it absorbed and incorporated diverse influences from African-American, Mexican and even Hawaiian traditional music during the past 100 years. This workshop follows that journey from country music’s folk origins to its rise as a popular style in the mid-20th century.

If you have questions, feel free to email the instructor at bobdavis@ccsf.edu

This is a music appreciation class.  Students will listen to music, not perform it.

By the end of this workshop students will "wow" their friends with newfound knowledge of American Country Music.
