Join us for an exploratory journey into the craft of upholstery!
From start to finish, students will learn how to create a series of small scale projects, including: dining chairs, ottomans, benches, and other items. For returning students, more complicated projects will be introduced, such as: headboards, wing chairs and round shaped chairs - with or without the cushions.
Sessions will include the discussions of related styles of upholstered furniture, fabrics and the historical time periods of the furniture, and each week see the progress of all of the projects being worked on. By the end of the workshop, students will have a solid understanding of the upholstery process, including: working with wood, coil springs, cutting and sewing of the fabric, handling poly foam and bonded dacron, cotton - and whatever else goes under the cover.
Students will provide their own foam, muslin and upholstery fabric of their choice for their project.
Students will need to purchase a tool kit at $70 to $90 each. At the first meeting the instructor will explain the tool types and where to buy them.
