Raku Workshop, Section 3
Instructor Tebby George
A raku firing technique gives both beginning and experienced ceramicists another option when firing their art. Glazes are applied to bisqued pieces. The pieces are fired at a rapid pace, then removed from the kiln and placed in a container with combustible materials. A fire ensues. The container is capped and reduction occurs, resulting in colorful metallic surfaces. Carbon is absorbed into the crackle-glazed surfaces, creating interesting patterns. Students will participate in all phases of the raku firing.
