Still Life Painting: Techniques for Realism
Instructor Patrick Bettag
Students will spend 5 weeks working on a single realistic oil painting. Direct observation from life is crucial to understanding how light interacts with the world around us so we can recreate the illusions of depth and different surface qualities when we paint. Beginning with a pencil drawing, we will cover how to transfer the drawing to a painting surface before moving into the painting. As our paintings progress, topics such as color theory, edge control and methods for artistic problem solving will be covered.
