Experimental Approaches to Paint-Handling
Instructor Glen Moriwaki
This workshop is focused on the material properties of paint (oil or acrylic) as well as on the artist’s physical application of paint to surface.
The variety of mediums and additives employed to alter paint combined with the variety of painting tools with which to apply it open up a wide range of possible effects and textures.
How the artist manipulates paint—with touch, gesture, body movement, and pace—and by means of methodical craft, built up layered passages, or spontaneous action— can produce individually distinct stylistic effects.
These effects can range from forceful and direct to soft and lyrical. They can set or amplify mood according to the purposes of the artist or they can become the very subject of the painting itself. The act of painting is what this workshop is about.
Note: This workshop is recommended for students with some previous experience in painting.
