This workshop focuses on the basics of children's picture book illustrating, writing and publishing. Students will learn the nuts and bolts of picture book making, so when the workshop ends, you can start making your own! In a playful setting, using lots of examples, handouts and a variety of creative exercises, this workshop will help students to uncover new and exciting ideas. Plus, students will get a behind the scenes look into the creative work of a professional author. Workshop content covers an overview of the children’s book industry, the structure of picture books, how to create memorable characters, what is voice, and the fundamentals of plot. If you love picture books and are interested in how to make them— come join us! Both beginning writers and illustrators are welcome.
