What will I learn in this program?

The Certificate of Completion in Fire Protection is for returning students who already have a college degree in another field.  It provides students the opportunity to obtain basic knowledge of the fire protection field.  The certificate is also suitable for returning student who do not choose to pursue an Associate Degree.  The seven “core” courses required are recommended by the California Community College Association of Fire Technology Directors.  A new course on Firefighter Safety will be required starting in the Fall 2011 semester.

Does this program have any special enrollment requirements?

FSC 111 Fire Fighter Academy prerequisites are F SC 50-Introduction to Fire Science Technology, F SC 115- ICS 200, F SC 17 First Responder (or EMT/EMTP {in lieu of}), and a current medical release from a physician to participate in strenuous physical activities in the Fire Academy program. 

Does this program have any special costs?

Material/Equipment fees are approximately $500-$600 to cover uniform requirements, safety equipment requirements, certification fees charged by State Fire Training, and any costs associated with the medical release requirements.
