LESLLA learners are adult immigrants with little or no schooling in their primary language who are learning the language of the country in which they have settled.

Sometimes called LIFE (Learners with Interrupted Formal Education) or SLIFE (Students with limited or Interrupted Formal Education), these literacy learners are a very diverse group, but they have two things in common:

  • they are acquiring proficiency in English
  • at the same time, they are developing literacy skills
