Instructor Bio

I started working with technology in 1984 with a computer that was basically a keyboard attached to a TV and the storage was a cassette player. In 1987 I started working as a System Analyst in one of the biggest oil companies in South America - Petrobras. I mainly worked with mainframe systems. Later, I started working with desktop applications based on Windows OS using Access database and Visual Basic as programming language. I was also the coordinator for training end-users in new technologies.

In the early 90's I got curious about HTML and started studying it. Later I started studying CSS and around 1995 I started studying JavaScript. Still not using too much in my work environment and the first web page had only hyperlinks that helped nicely the Human Resources to spread out pdf documents of benefits to employees via the intranet.

I came to US in 1997 as a contractor mostly working with projects related to Y2K and mainly modifying some programs for the mainframe systems. During the first two years I was working in US, my studies related to HTML, CSS, JavaScript were left aside. But in 1999 I re-started studying this technology when I also started to learn about jQuery. It was nice to see the evolution of the internet, of the WWW and how those front-end technologies were evolving to allow companies to mark their presence online via websites. At that moment, I was working full time as a Senior Software Engineer at Matson and helped develop some web pages for them while still working with Billing, Payroll and HR systems in the mainframe.

I decided  to go back to training/teaching because I wanted to teach folks to become web developers, and/or to choose and work with technology wisely. I started as a part-time instructor at CCSF in 2007 and in 2009 I became a full time instructor for the CNIT Department. I am responsible for creating, maintaining, and teaching most of the courses in the front-end web development program while keeping my contacts in the corporation world from where I get advice to enhance/modify the content of the courses I teach. I love teaching!
