Jim was an exceptionally respected member in our Physics Department. He was a gifted teacher who sincerely inspired his students to acknowledge that physics was meaningful and applicable in every-day life. Jim challenged his students to first do their best, but also reminded them to seek and welcome help when it was necessary. He provided encouraging support and advice not only to his students, but also to his colleagues. Jim played an essential and important role in the development of our current laboratory program. Two modernized laboratory rooms in the Physics Department (S-158 & 159) are named in his honor. With great passion, in and out of physics, Jim gave so much as a person, mentor, and teacher.
