This introductory course will develop the four basic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The course also introduces some cultural aspects of France and the francophone world..
Requires an additional 1 hour.
After successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Outcome 1: Understand and respond to spoken French at the elementary level and grasp general information from an audio segment of semi-authentic dialogue.
- Outcome 2: Speak at the elementary level with grammatical accuracy and intelligible pronunciation in order to introduce him/herself and his/her family, ask for information about his/her interlocutor and use -er verbs in a present tense narrative.
- Outcome 3: Read at an elementary level, paying attention to pictures and titles accompanying a text in order to get its general content, looking for cognates to better understand a paragraph, comprehend the main elements of a written text (magazine or newspaper) and compose short communications of about 5 sentences incorporating the principles of present tense syntax as introduced at this level.
- Outcome 4: Articulate knowledge and understanding of the cultures of French-speaking countries covered in the course.
