This introductory course will develop the four basic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The course also introduces some cultural aspects of France and the francophone world.
Requires an additional 1 hour.
After successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Outcome 1: Speak at the elementary level with grammatical accuracy and intelligible pronunciation in order to introduce themselves and their family and ask for information about their interlocutor, to narrate in the past, present and future tense.
- Outcome 2: Understand and respond to spoken French at the elementary level capturing the essence of a lecture, an authentic video or recording on any familiar topic
- Outcome 3: Comprehend the main elements of a written text (e.g. literary text, magazine or newspaper) and to appraise differences of styles (literary vs. technical or business) and compose short communications incorporating the principles of present, past and future tense syntax as introduced at this level.
- Outcome 4: Articulate knowledge and understanding of the cultures of French-speaking countries covered in the course.
