This course is an elective course in the major in Fire Science, and is for students pursuing a career in the Fire Service to obtain a better understanding of responding to an emergency. This course also prepares those who hope to improve their firefighting skills and prepare for promotion.
Offered Spring semesters
After successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Outcome 1: Describe the duties and requirements of the company officer in a fire suppression company on the fire ground, including dealing with subordinates under their command.
- Outcome 2: Demonstrate competency in giving and receiving commands in emergency situations.
- Outcome 3: Demonstrate skills and knowledge applicable to the position of company officer in engine and truck companies, and how to deal with emergency situations when in overall command of an incident.
- Outcome 4: Apply basic knowledge of fire behavior and types of structures and occupancies as it pertains to the role of the company officer.
