This class teaches students the basics of producing a literary magazine. Students gain experience in writing, copy editing, and production while developing the aesthetic judgment and the skills for taking on greater editorial and production responsibilities in the future.
Offered Spring semesters
After successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Outcome 1: Analyze and critically discuss pieces submitted for publication in terms of literary and scholarly merit, at an introductory level.
- Outcome 2: Employ criteria for analyzing and evaluating literary magazines for editorial vision, artistic principles, literary trends, and cultural contexts, at an introductory level.
- Outcome 3: Distinguish between the revision, editing, and proofreading stages of the writing process and demonstrate basic knowledge of editorial stylistics for consistency in punctuation, grammar, and usage.
- Outcome 4: Demonstrate the skills of a junior-level editorial or other staff role in producing a professional quality literary magazine.
