An overview of sound recording and design with a focus on hands-on, practical approaches. Sound recording techniques using a variety of microphones and decks; sound editing and design using digital audio workstations including sync sound, dialogue, sound effects, music, and mixing. Film screenings, lectures, demonstrations and field trips.
After successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Outcome 1: Demonstrate and evaluate professional audio recording techniques used in film production and post production.
- Outcome 2: Design, edit, and mix audio tracks for motion pictures,using both analog and digital editing systems.
- Outcome 3: Describe the history and evolution of cinema sound design and identify and evaluate its creative use and impact in current filmmaking practice.
