CHIN 10B Continuation of Beginning Conversational Cantonese (3)

Second semester course. Continuation of extensive oral training in Cantonese. Emphasis on practical vocabulary and idiom rather than on formal grammar and literature. Students will learn romanization with tone markings rather than Chinese characters.
Not recommended for native speakers of Cantonese.

After successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Outcome 1: Identify the basic sounds and tones of Cantonese and reproduce them as accurately as possible.
- Outcome 2: Master the vocabulary and identify the basic sentence structure introduced at this level, and apply them in basic oral communication.
- Outcome 3: Comprehend a simple conversation chiefly composed of the elements studied.
- Outcome 4: Perform in conversational situations with some degree of fluency and accuracy in pronunciation and tones, using words and expressions in a socially as well as linguistically proper context and with structural correctness.
