An exploration of outdoor learning opportunities for young children in home-based child care based on the developmental needs of infants, preschoolers and school-age children. Active and sensory play, discoveries in nature, imaginative and creative arts, safety standards, design elements, community resources for equipment, materials and financial or labor assistance.

After successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Outcome 1: Select engaging outdoor activities that meet the developmental and safety needs of infants, preschoolers and school age children in family child care.
- Outcome 2: Create a preliminary design of outdoor play areas in a family child care setting.
- Outcome 3: Choose equipment, materials and community resources to implement the outdoor plan.
- Outcome 4: Identify parks, community places for children to explore outdoor learning and concerns in transporting children.
